June 2011 Club Dive Results

June Club Dive Salt Creek – Results

Well here we are, at the half way mark for the year and we have some close battles happening, based on the over-all year-to-date score totals, which should make for an exiting second half to the year. Our June 2011 Fathomiers Spear Fishing Tournament was held on Sunday the 12th at Salt Creek in Dana Point. 10 competitors participated with 6 weighing in fish. Calm winds with overcast skies cleared in the afternoon with very light on shore winds. Swell was running 2-4ft out of the SW. Water temps. ranged from 61-63F and the visibility went from 8-10ft in the morning to 15-20ft in some spots in the afternoon. The majority of the divers walked to the southern point (northern end of Dana Pt.), while the remainder opted for the northern point of the beach break. Congratulations to Kelsey Albert on her 1st place finish, Paul Romanowski for getting the Al Schuck Points for his 12.98 lbs Sheephead, and to tentative Eric Buss for his impressive 44.56 lbs WSB. This is the second competition for Eric and his second WSB. 2 for 2! Watch out for this kid. Thank you to all those who participated, to Carlos for the grub, and those who kindly shared drinks and cookies! Dive safe and hope to see you all at the July meet at County Line.  ( no pictures submitted yet )

PV Scramble Results

PV Scramble May 22nd-

A Large long period Southern Hemisphere swell and persistent NW windswells all last week contributed to a notion that the PV Scramble was going to be a wash-out this year.  However, contrary to the anticipations held by many divers, Sunday’s conditions in PV were actually much better than anticipated, and in some places visibility was 15-20 +, even if a little on the hazy side- at least that is what was reported.  Not everyone who dove saw descent fish, but plenty of reports of sightings and unlanded shots did come in. In the end, only two divers ended up weighing in fish – our President Derek Kimball and Tentative member Eric Buss.

Our new tentative member, Eric Buss, took 1st place with a 32.2 lb White Sea Bass.  2nd place was obtained by Derek Kimball with a 24.4 lb White Sea Bass.  No other fish were weighed in.

Here are the scores.

1st – Eric Buss – Score 100 (Total Points = 33.2)

2nd – Derek Kimball – Score 73.49 (Total Points = 24.4)

After the weigh in, more members showed up to Carlos Serret’s always warm and welcome home complete with his famous Wild Boar, beans and rice, along with all the fixin’s. We had a great time hanging out and catching up with each other. Congratulations to Eric Buss for a stellar placing with a very nice fish!!
